Where will you be in 2011? The ‘best of the best’ may be helping Canada prepare for the 2011 U-20 World Championships. This year’s Canada squad has a strong BC flavour. Over half of the players come from our BC Secondary School’s Rugby Union competition, which shows that you are in the best place to achieve your dream.
The BC players are:
- Jamal Allen (Vancouver College)
- Chris Barratt (St. George’s)
- Conner Braid (Oak Bay)
- Justin Chelak (Lord Byng)
- Andrew Crow (St. Michaels University)
- Hamish Davidson (West Vancouver)
- Aaron Johnstone (Rockridge)
- Harry Jones (Rockridge)
- Jesse Kliman (St. Michaels University)
- Evan Mallory (Brentwood College)
- Jeff McKinnon (Carson Graham)
- Ben Mittlestead (Carson Graham)
- Will Phillipson (Brentwood College)
- Dakota Poole (Kelowna)
- Sam Skulskey (St. Michaels University)
- Conor Trainor (St. George’s)
Coaches Tim Murdy (Shawnigan Lake) and Ian Hyde-Lay (St. Michaels University), together with the thirty-member squad, leave on February 28th for New Zealand where they will open the tour with a match against the Wellington Development team on March 6th. On the 11th Canada then takes on the Taranaki Development team, before wrapping up the tour against Hawkes Bay in Napier on March 14th.
Players interested in representing their country should work hard both on and off the field. You should let your school’s coach know what your plans are, and he will let the representative coaches for BC and Canada know your dreams. You are playing in the best high school league in Canada, so if you believe you could be among the ‘best of the best’, why not go for it?
