Dates and Deadlines for 2013

  • Our Season of Play starts on March 4, 2013.  Competition between a school team and a team outside that school may not take place before that date.
  • Student-Athlete Registration Forms must be submitted to the BC SCHOOL SPORTS office by way of the on-line registration system no later than April 5, 2013.  Please carefully read Section C2.3 (Adding Names to Student-Athlete Registration Form) in the BCSS Handbook – Operating Procedures and Competitive Rules and Regulations 2012-2013.
  • Applications for BCSSRU Scholarships must be received no later than April 12, 2013.  N.B.  Late applications will not be accepted.
  • The final day on which teams may qualify for Provincials 2013 is May 16, 2013.  The final rankings and game schedules will be posted on the website the following day.
  • Provincials 2013 will be held as follows:
    • Round 1 Games (at various locations around the Province) on May 25, 2013.
    • Rounds 2, 3 and 4 Games at the Rotary Stadium and Exhibition Park Complex in
    • Abbotsford on May 29, 30 and June 1, 2013.

CLAREMONT SCRUM FEST 2013

Claremont Secondary (Saanich) is set to host is fifth Scrum Fest Tournament.  The event will run over three days (April 11 to 13), and features approximately thirty teams in two divisions. – Senior and Junior Boys.  Note: Due to a low level of registration last year, there will be no Mixed Girls Division this year.  Past participants have included teams from Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, the Okanagan, the Northern Interior, Alberta, Ontario, the United States, Great Britain and Australia.  Each team will play three pre-arranged games.  The event also features                                                                                           

  • A ‘Player Clinic’ hosted by members of the Canadian Men’s National  Team
  • Tournament T-shirts and program
  • An on-site concession, change rooms, bleachers for spectators, and more…

BCSSRU SCHOLARSHIPS 2012

A reminder to graduating rugby student-athletes that the application deadline for all BCSSRU Scholarships is Friday, April 13, 2012. Criteria and Application Procedures are set out in detail on the scholarships page of this website.

Please note that it is not necessary for a candidate to specify a particular scholarship in Section A.  Also, the jointly sponsored BCRRS/BCSSRU Referee Scholarship is targeted to graduating students who have a strong interest in refereeing rugby, and who intend to complete the two levels of IRB certification in this field.

Zone Organization Meetings

Now that we are into the New Year, zones as well as individual school programs are turning their attention to the upcoming season which gets under way on Monday, March 5.  The Northern Interior Zone held their meeting in conjunction with the Sevens tournament held at Williams Lake Secondary in late October, and the Fraser Valley meeting was held at the Abbotsford RFC this past November.

Upcoming meetings are scheduled as follows:

  • Lower Mainland:  Tuesday, January 17 – 4:00 pm at St. George’s School (Vancouver)
