2009 Okanagan Sevens

Kelowna, Kalamalka (Vernon) and Rutland (Kelowna) will represent the Okanagan at the BCSSRU Sevens this coming weekend at St. George’s School in Vancouver.  Both teams tied in points with Kelowna coming out on top based upon the head to head match-up.  The day was weather perfect with most in attendance coming away with sunburns from the sun and wind.  Even a prop was seen to be slapping on the sunscreen late in the afternoon.

Thanks to Kelowna for hosting the event after weather issues prevented the tournament from  being played in Vernon as usual .  Also, a special thanks to their assistant coach Chris Haines who stepped into the breach and refereed six matches due to a shortage of officials.  Jayce Hewko was named the tournament Most Valuable Player, scoring eight tries and setting up numerous others.  Finally a sincere thank you to Ian Busfield, who has been the organizing force behind this event for the past fourteen years.  Game scores are as follows:
