Six Nations Matches Among Highlights of the Williams Lake Tour

Despite no wins and some lopsided scores against them, the Williams Lake Stags had a memorable tour to England and Wales.  “I believe we were the first secondary school from the north to tour overseas”, commented coach Mike Levitt, “and for many of the twenty-three boys, it was their first trip off the continent”.

Matches were played in London (Wimbledon College), Salisbury (Bishop Wordsworth’s School), Rugby (Lawrence Sheriff School) and Barry in Wales (Ysgol Bro Morgannwg).  It was twelve brilliant days of no rain, no injuries and fantastic hosting.  Highlights of the adventure were the entire team at Twickenham sitting among the French fans for the England vs. France game, and then again in Cardiff for the historic Ireland Grand Slam win.  “We managed to get tickets for twelve to get into Millennium Stadium, said Levitt, “but for the others, to be among the thousands on the heaving streets of Cardiff that sunny afternoon charged with the tribal passion of the Irish and the Dragonhood was the experience of a lifetime”.
