Mackenzie Poole
BC Rugby Union (Benj O’Connor) Scholarship

For this award, we recognized a player who, in the words of his coach, ‘had that rare combination of size, speed, power and running capabilities’. These talents did not go unnoticed by those coaching teams at a higher level, and he was selected for

  • the Crimson Tide U-16 and U-18 teams which competed in the Provincial Regional Championships,
  • the BC U-16 and U-18 teams which earned gold medals at the National Championship Festivals over a period of three years,
  • the Canada U-17 program which in 2007 competed very successfully at the annual Millfield Tournament in England, and
  • the National U-20 team on a tour to Florida where he was the starting fullback for the Canada ‘A’ team which played the USA U-19 team.

Mackenzie is another player who has chosen UVic. for his post-secondary education, and where he balances the pursuit of rugby with his academic studies.
